Nintendo Is Letting The Fantastic GameCube Sequence Of Games Gather Dust
A look at what Nintendo might be intending with GameCube remasters, since it clearly doesn’t need a digital console on Switch.
In the year 2001, Nintendo released its sequel to the Nintendo 64: the GameCube. This cube-shaped console was not the very successful in sales. In fact, at the moment, it was Nintendo’s worst selling home console. Based on Nintendo’s sales data, the GameCube marketed under 22 million units. It was not a pop culture phenomenon like the Wii and Change could be years after. Despite low earnings, the GameCube would go on to be appreciated for two reasons. The first is the popular controller that’s still in use today. The second, and larger variable, is the amazingly strong application library.
The GameCube’s Beautiful Library Obviously, the system started with Luigi’s Mansion, that is going to get its third installment this year. Later in the GameCube’s launch year saw the release of Super Smash Bros.. Melee, a sport which remained popular over 15 years following its debut. Super Mario Sunshine, one of Mario’s most unique experiences, was released for the GameCube. Metroid Prime, considered by many as one of the best matches of all time, published early in the GameCube’s lifespan. A couple of notable franchises got their start to the console. Pikmin, in Addition to Animal Crossing (for fans outside Japan), began on GameCube.
All this is merely the tip of the iceberg, since the console is home to many other fantastic Dolphin emulator roms, such as The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, and Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. But, despite having so many notable names, the GameCube seems to have been ignored by Nintendo.
When the Wii launched, among its noteworthy features was backward compatibility with GameCube games. Consequently, if you wished to make shelf space for a Wii, and still wanted to play with GameCube games, what worked out nicely. This digital service allowed players to play and download games from Nintendo’s past. Now, elderly lovers can relive Super Mario 64 and The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. Newcomers, possibly kids who did not mature in the late 90s, may also play these iconic titles. Simply put, that the Virtual Console was an superb idea, and continued into Nintendo’s next console.
The Wii U is Nintendo’s worst selling console, but people who did possess it valued its Virtual Console library. The Wii U allowed for backward compatibility for Wii games, but not GameCube. This was fine, but fans saw there wasn’t any GameCube names being offered in the Virtual Console or even eShop. What is really intriguing is that the Wii U actually added some Wii matches to its eShop. Anyone who picked up a Wii U as their first console, and wanted to play with GameCube titles, were out of luck.
The Arrival Of Ports And RemastersNintendo has re-released several GameCube titles. There was also The Wind Waker HD on Wii U, and Nintendo attracted the first Luigi’s Mansion into the 3DS This past Year. Fans are wondering whether this is the potential for GameCube names. Recently, there was the fad,”#remasterthousandyeardoor,” thus need is strong for bringing back GameCube titles. Even though more remasters would be good, a majority want GameCube names available digitally and inexpensively, considering the GameCube is becoming a”retro” console much like the Nintendo 64.
GameCube On Change?Lately, there were reports back in 2016 saying the Nintendo Switch will be receiving GameCube games on its Virtual Console. This unfortunately was not the case, and in fact, Nintendo later stated the Switch wouldn’t have a Virtual Console. Currently, the only 1st-party classic Nintendo games available on Switch are NES titles via Nintendo Shift Online. There were rumors which SNES games will join the lineup sooner or later. In terms of GameCube, here is something interesting: Nintendo deputy general director Yoshiaki Koizumi told French website Metlty (via Polygon), “What I can tell you is that we’re working on matters that go in this direction,” when asked about GameCube names on Virtual Console. Remember though, this was before Nintendo said there would be no Virtual Console on Change. This might then imply two things: GameCube digital programs are scrapped, or the company is bringing them another way.
Lately, Nintendo said it is thinking about an “extension” for Nintendo Switch Online, and searching into”other approaches” of providing the games. Nintendo also sees that many lovers are “trying to play past titles.” Nintendo isn’t ignorant of lovers’ want to play classic games in the company’s library. So, how could GameCube games be attracted back today? Of course, there is the idea of a different Virtual Console-like service for GameCube games, or simply placing them on the eShop. Then there is adding the titles as a piece of Nintendo Shift Online. The problem there is that if Nintendo adds the consoles so, it might be years until GameCube is following. So, what could be greatest is either adding pick GameCube games for buy to the eShop over time, or start sprinkling GameCube titles (along with SNES and Nintendo 64) to Nintendo Switch Online.
Do Not Lose HopeThe GameCube isn’t one of Nintendo’s most successful consoles, but it’s a strong library of games. Nintendo seems to have failed the GameCube, besides re-releases. The near future may be bright, however. There’s no affirmation that GameCube games are coming, but Nintendo is very aware of lovers’ desire, and the company could be working on something. , and Star Fox Adventures.
